Filipino Gets Seven Months For Theft, Handbag Not Recovered

Bandar Seri Begawan - A father of three was sentenced to seven months' imprisonment by the Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing a handbag containing B$4,000 cash belonging to a local woman.

Fernando Nunez, 35, a Filipino national, was on a visitor's pass when he committed the offence, the court heard.

The defendant pleaded guilty to stealing the said handbag with two others - who are still at large - from a stall selling clothes at the Gadong night market. The stolen handbag and the cash amounting to B$4,000 have not been recovered.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
