Sultan Awards 11 Outstanding Teachers

Bandar Seri Begawan - His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday consented to present awards to 11 teachers during a Teacher's Day celebration-at the International Convention Centre, Berakas.

Also in attendance were HRH Prince Haji A1-Muhtadee Billah, The Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, HRH Prince Haji Sufi Bolkiah and HRH Prince Abdul Malik.

Upon arrival, His Majesty and his royal entourage were greeted by Minister of Education Dato Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Haji Mohamed Taib and Deputy Minister of Education Dato Dr Haji Mohammad bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman.

Two teachers, Dato Cikgu Haji Kifli bin Bujang and Cikgu Dyg Hjh Masura binti Haji Abidin, received Meritorious Teacher Awards along with certificates of honour, $12,000 cash prizes, gold medals, free medical expenses including treatments in the first-class ward at government hospitals and medical services at home.

Meanwhile, Cikgu Awang Haji Abdul Hamid bin Talipuddin, Cikgu Pengiran Haji Mohd Yusof bin Pengiran Sabtu and Datin Cikgu Hjh Kamaliah Suhaimi binti Haji Md Fadzullah Suhaimi received Special Teacher's Day Awards as well-as plaques, certificates of honour, $4,000 cash prizes, and free medical expenses.

Excellent Teachers Awards were handed to Cikgu Awg Haidon Lim Beng Guan in mathematics, Cikgu Dyg Sa'diah binti Haji Abdul Gapar in English, Cikgu Dyg Shim Guek Lan in science, Cikgu Dyg Hjh Masnah binti Haji Lusin in art and design, Cikgy Dyg Saliah binti Haji Kahar in science for lower secondary school level, and Cikgu Hjh Dyg Jaini binti Pehin Dato Haji Mohsin for pre-school level.

They each received a certificate of honour, $4,000 cash prize and a gold medal as well as given the opportunity to further their studies depending on the conditions of training and services.
