Heart Patients Join Walkabout
By Za'im Zaini

Bandar Seri Begawan - Sixteen heart patients yesterday joined a 1.5-kilometre "Shahbandar Walkabout", initiated by Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health Dato Serbini bin Haji Ali, at Bukit Shahbandar, Jerudong.

Organised by staff of RIPAS Hospital's cardiac rehabilitation centre, the walk was aimed at providing cardiac patients with an opportunity to safely incorporate what they have learnt during rehabilitation into a social setting.

Some of the focal points during the walk were: walking within a safe heart rate zone, recognising levels of cardio tolerance, and encouraging healthy behavioural change among the patients.

According to occupational therapist Su Jing Ting, there are currently 14 groups, with each group comprising 10 patients, undergoing therapy at RIPAS Hospital.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
