In Knowledge Lies Truth
By Sonia K and Za'im Zaini

Bandar Seri Begawan - Truth projected by knowledge is distinct and cannot be shaken, said His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in a titah yesterday at a Special Forum on the concept of Malay Muslim-Monarchy or Melayu Islam Beraja at the Chancellor's Hall, Universiti Brunei Darussalam.

"That is how valuable knowledge is; it will bring us towards truth.

Without doubt this event is important to seek knowledge, in essence knowledge is very precious. With knowledge we will receive insights, like someone seeing light while walking in the dark.

"Tonight is a very special night for us as we join this special forum with the concept Malay Islam Monarchy," said His Majesty.

The forum was organised in conjunction with His Majesty's 60th birthday.

Tonight we are singing a tune that doesn't lead to entertainment buttowards progress.

"With it our minds and hearts will be infused with information that is appropriate," said His Majesty.

"I sincerely wish to extend my congratulations to the organising committee and welcome HRH Raja Muda of Perak, Raja Nazrin Shah Ibni Sultan Azlan Muhibbudin Shah for graciously attending and delivering the key note address, as well as the members of the panel from inside and outside the country who I believe will make this ceremony a success with their outstanding arguments according to their expertise," His Majesty added.

Earlier in the evening, a welcoming sabda was delivered by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah.

He said the special forum was one of the initiatives in response to the call by His Majesty to fortify and honour the sovereignty of the Monarchy Institution in Brunei Darussalam.

"The system and Monarchy Institution have made up the country's governing system and administration since a long time ago and it has continuously showed the power of the system in taking care of the sovereignty and peace of Brunei Darussalam with all the citizens and residents protected under it.

"The country's concept which is Malay Islam Monarchy (MIB) is based on the characteristics of Monarchy Institution which reflects the values of Brunei Malay culture, the genuineness of Brunei customs, the superiority of the Islamic religion as well as the position of the Sultan as the highest leader and an umbrella for the country," HRH Prince Sufri said.

He also said the theme of the forum "Malay Islam Monarchy the Country's Concept" is very appropriate and precise at this time to prepare a vision for the citizens to provide focustowards strengthening the sovereignty of Monarchy Institution in the modern global context, which challenges the culture and lifestyle.

HRH also saw the uniqueness of the Monarchy system of Brunei Darussalam. He said, we only need to focus our vision towards strengthening relations between the Sultan and his loyal subjects.

"Not a lot of countries have a close relationship between their rulers and the subjects compared to Brunei Darussalam," HRH said.

Later a panel of discussion took place including YB Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, who spoke on Raja dan Islam dalam Melayu Islam Beraja or Monarchy and Islam in Malay Muslim Monarchy, Prof. Emeritus Dato Dr. Khoo Kay Kim from Malaysia on lnstitusi Beraja dalam Tamadun Melayu or The Institution of Monarchy in the Malay Civilisation, YB Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Yahya bin Haji Ibrahim, on Nilai-nilai Luhur dan Adat Istiadat dalam Melayu Islam Beraja or The noble values and traditional customs in the Malay Muslim Monarchy, Yang Arif DatinPaduka Hjh Hayati binti Pehin Orang Kaya Shahbandar Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Mohd Salleh on Melayu Islam Beraja dalam Perlembagaan Negara Brunei Darussalam or Malay Muslim Monarchy in the Brunei Constitution.
