By P. Marilyn

Visitors watch how a special needs child is guided.
Some 15 non-government schoolteachers
paid a visit to Pusat Ehsan yesterday as part of their education
course for special needs students.
The 20-week course, run by the
Ministry of Education's Special Education Unit, started in April this
year.
According to a participant, Angela
Mann from the Learning Support Department of JIS, it was a "wonderful,
interesting and productive experience" as it provided the teachers
with ideas and knowledge on ways to handle the special needs children
in class.
The teachers were also required to
attend some informative lectures.
The visitors led by Ken Fitzgerald,
the Special Education Unit's Educational Psychologist, was welcomed by
Pusat Ehsan's Programme Coordinator Jasmine Ahmad and her assistant
Harinie Mohammad.
They began their tour by visiting the
Sheltered Workshop, where the special needs students made packages for
KFC's condiments, before heading to the Work Skill Programme, where
the students were given vocational training and taught how to do work.
Other places visited included the
School Programme, Handicrafts Unit and Early Intervention Programme.
