On Establishing Trade Ties
By Azaraimy HH
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Representatives from 11 OTOP companies from
Narathiwat province, south Thailand and several local companies held a
discussion on establishing trade relations yesterday.
The visitors were led by the vice
governor of Narithiwat, Pisat Thronglert. Narathiwat is a province
with Muslim majority population, and conducts trade extensively with
neighbouring Malaysia. Products from Narathiwat range from textile,
batiks, handicrafts, paintings, food and fruits.
OTOP
- which stands for "One Tambon One Product" - is a Thai government
policy to encourage Thai communities to be self-reliant, create jobs
and income for the community members with local resources. The
government helps with modern technology and introducing the
end-products to the domestic and international markets.
Via OTOP, business ventures employ
local wisdom and resources to develop quality products and services
while maintaining the Thai culture and way of life. -- Courtesy of Borneo
