Charge! Brunei Grand Sale Is On

Bandar Seri
Begawan - The 12th Brunei Grand Sale (BGS) is on - launched at
the Bumiputra Trade and Commercial Centre in Bandar yesterday - and
with that, though shoppers may be slow on the draw now, the 45-day
sale should pick up when payday gets closer.
The monthly phenomenon aside,
shoppers in the meantime are whipping out the credit card instead with
the accent on price tags in this year's sale being obvious.
As the Permanent Secretary at the
Prime Minister's Office, Dato Paduka Hj Kamis bin Hj Tamin laid it
down: "Brunei has a Price Control Act which entails that products
displayed for sale be accompanied by clear price tags visible to
customers."
The perennial phenomenon is where
locals make a beeline to border towns like Mid and Limbang on weekends
and festivities.
Dato
Paduka Hj Kamis also noted that with foreign workers abounding in the
retail industry, there is much opportunity for the local workforce to
fill in positions at management and professional level in the trade
and retail sector.
He also was hopeful that businesses
would prioritise customer service as a good service reputation goes a
long way to build a company; hence the integrity on proper pricing in
a sale which recognises customers as sophisticated shoppers.
But the charge is on, as
establishments entice shoppers with discounts, purchase-on-purchase,
free gifts, one-day promotions, crazy sales, lucky draw and points
system on top of rock-bottom prices. -- Courtesy of Borneo
