By James Kon
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Two Brunei veteran basketball teams will head to
Kalimantan, Indonesia for the 15th Asean Veteran Basketball
Championship 2006 from Sept 19-23.
Contesting in the 40-year-old and
50year-old categories, Brunei Darussalam's veteran basketball players
will be pitted against veteran cagers from seven Asean countries
including Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.
According to Sui Boon Ong, the
40year-old team coach: "I feel that Brunei's 50-year-old veteran team
has a better chance of doing well in the championship this year."
He cited that the team consists of
some regular and former national team players, who have been promoted
from the 40-yearold team and have an in-depth experience to contest
with other teams in the championship.
In 1999; Brunei's veteran basketball
team took third place when it was held in Kuching. Brunei aimed to
emulate or even better the achievement this time.
"We are confident of getting a good
result in the 50-year-old team category, especially so with the
leadership of theinspirational captain, Goh Kim Tian and also players
like Ang Eng Kee, Yeo Ying Si, Lim Siong Him and Lim Soon Hock," coach
Sui added.
The Brunei 40-year-old veteran
basketball team has a number of new players like Lim Wee Tiong, Ong
Tze Keu, Yong See Yong and Palad S.A.
Although the team lacks training with
just three friendly matches, nevertheless they've pledged to give
their best shot.
Meanwhile, the Brunei veteran
basketball teams would like to convey their appreciation to Kingston
Beverages and Creamery Sdn Bhd for sponsoring the jerseys. -- Courtesy of Borneo
