Health Career Exhibition Takes Off

Begawan - A health Career Exhibition organised by the Ministry
of Health in conjunction with World Health Day 2006 was launched
yesterday, at the Goldstone Ballroom of The Centrepoint Hotel in
Gadong.
The opening ceremony of the career
exhibition was officiated by the Minister of Health, Pehin Dato Seri
Setia Hj Suyoi bin Hj Osman.
Also in attendance was Pehin Dato
Paduka Hj Awg Hazair bin Hj Abdullah, Deputy Minister of Health, Dato
Paduka Hj Serbini bin Hj Ali, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry, and
other senior officers.
The event began with a welcoming
address by the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health
cum Chairman of the event's organising committee, Awg Yusof bin Amba.
World Health Day 2006 carries the
theme "Health Workforce" and bears the slogan "Working Together for
Health". In line with this year's theme, the ministry is organising
this career exhibition with the aim of providing information on
various professional fields under the Ministry of Health.
In addition, the exhibition also
intends to provide the public with a wider understanding on the
different roles and responsibilities of every profession in the
various fields, while at the same time promoting and attracting the
interests of students and graduates in exploring various career
options under the Ministry of Health. Students, graduates, and the
public can obtain detailed, information and have face-to-face
discussions with officers and staff of the ministry from various felds.
The ministry wants to increase the
number of local workforce.
This year's theme of "Health
Workforce" gives a strong emphasis on workforce
in terms of quality, variety,
specialisation, educational status and ability which all come in line
with the ministry's strategic action plan of "Health Care in the 21st
Century" prioritising the development of a competent workforce.
The career exhibition showcases more
than 25 "Allied Health Professional" careers in various fields
including administration, clinical, public health and more.
The Minister of Health later
presented some Health Career information handouts to school
representatives before touring the exhibition.
Parents and students are urged to
visit the career exhibition that will be held for only two days.
Briefing sessions on the functions
and responsibilities of various health careers will also be held
