Police Found Contraband Alcoholic Drinks At Sungai Kupang
By Achong Tanjong

Bandar Seri Begawan - Three suspects managed to escape from the police Wednesday evening at Sungai Kupang while trying to smuggle in contraband alcoholic drinks into the Sultanate.

According to the Marine Police, they were on their routine patrol along the Brunei river around areas including Sungai Putat, Sungai Butir, Sungai Pengkalan Batang and Sungai Kupang.

Upon arrival at Sungai Kupang, they came across a wooden boat "Pelauk" with three men onboard, sailing towards the capital.

Being spotted by the inspection police, the suspects turned their boat around and sped away, throwing a black plastic bag into the waters.

The police chased the boat through Sungai Terusan Kupang for a few minutes until they reached the Malaysian border of Limbang, where the suspects managed to escape by entering into Malaysia.

Unsuccessful in catching the culprits, the police returned to the location where the suspects threw the plastic bag. Upon checking the contents, the police discovered five cartons of 330m1 of Tiger beer.

The 231 cans of smuggled beer were then taken to the Marine Police Base in Muara for further investigation and kept as evidence. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
