Essay Writing Winners Receive Cash
Prizes

Begawan - Eleven students from Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD)
yesterday received cash prizes for winning an essay writing
competition at a presentation ceremony held at the Senate Room
Chancellor Hall, UBD.
The competition was held in
conjunction with UBD's 20t" anniversary celebrations of its
establishment. Attending the ceremony as the guest of honour and to
present the prizes was Dato Paduka Dr Awang Hj Ismail bin Hj, Duraman,
Vice Chancellor of UBD.
Also in attendance were UBD's
principal, officers, academicians and other guests.
First place winner and receiving the
$500 cash prize in the English Language category was Ira Karnika Dewi
bie Abu Bakar. In second and third places were Siti Khatyzah Masayu
bte Hj Masri and Ihsani bte Hj Moksin, who won $400 and $300,
respectively.
Consolation prizes of $50 were
presented to Muhammad Nabil bin Hj Ibrahim and Suriati bte Abu Bakar.
All winners also received certificates.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Arif bin Dr Hj
Serbini came out as the top winner in the Malay Language category and
received a $500 cash prize and certificate. Siti Badriyah bte Hj
Mohamad Yusof and Hjh Rosni bte Hj Ibarahim claimed second and third
places, winning $400 and $300 cash prizes and certificates.
Consolation prizes were awarded to
Suriati bte Abu Bakar, Julia bte Radin and Hjh Vivi Nor'Haffizah bte
Muhamad.
The objectives of the event were to
promote and encourage creative and reflective writing among students,
to create awareness of the university's achievements, as well as its
endeavor to strive for excellence in all aspects of life.
The competition was open to all UBD
students, in which participants were allowed to submit only one essay
