Thai National Fined For Undeclared Liquor
By Rol Ezam

Bandar Seri Begawan - An unemployed Thai national was slapped with a $1,000 fine by the Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to having more than 40 bottles of undeclared liquor.

The defendant, Pornchai Thongdeesarn, 39, paid the fine. The police found 24 bottles of white wine and 20 bottles of Mekhong inside a small cupboard at the defendant's house in Kg Kilanas last week, the court was told.

According to the Royal Customs and Excise Department's prosecutor, the Thai man bought the liquor, which was estimated to be worth $288, from a Chinese man.

The court heard that the defendant did not pay the customs duty of $113. The bottles of liquor were forfeited to the state.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
