Retired Army Personnel Charged With Corruption
By Azaraimy HH

Bandar Seri Begawan - A retired Royal Brunei Armed Forces personnel, Prait bin Timbang, has been charged by the Bandar Magistrate's Court for an offence under the Prevention of Corruption Act (Chapter 13), a press release from the Brunei Anti-Corruption Bureau stated yesterday.

Based on investigations conducted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau, it was disclosed that the 47-year-old man allegedly committed the offence when he was a quarter master at the Quarter Master Training Centre in Penanjong Garrison on June 18, 2003.

According to the press release, Prait was charged with attempting to deceive the Royal Brunei Armed Forces with a document, namely the ration indent form (BAF Q 15 Form) for the month of June 2003.

Investigations revealed that the document contained bogus information on the amount and types of food items being supplied from a supplier.

The press release said that the amount and types of food items had been falsely increased to mislead the Royal Brunei Armed Forces.

No plea was taken. The court released the man on bail of $5,000 or one local surety. Further mention on the case will be heard on October 12.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
