Getting to learn more about Asean

"You have an important task to
achieve, which is to learn about Asean and win the Asean quiz
competition. I believe the guidance that your instructors have given
you will assist you in your preparation for the quiz."
This was stated by Awg Koh Hong Puah,
Acting Assistant Director of Department of Schools for secondary, who
was the guest of honour at the flag handing and 'doa selamat' ceremony
for the Brunei contingents held at the Sixth Form Centre in Berakas
yesterday.
Three upper secondary students will
be competing in the 3rd Asean Quiz competition to be held at Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia from September 16 to 20. The students are Awang Haji
Ammarul Ariffin bin Hj Suhaili from Sixth Form Centre, Berakas, Dyg
Siti Maryam binti Hj Mustapa from Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan
Sultan and Awg Mohd Hafiizh bin Hj Osman from Maktab Duli Pengiran
Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah. Accompanying them will be Dyg Hjh Noridah
binti Abdullah, Deputy Principal of Sixth Form Centre and Dyg Hjh Amal
Nuriyah binti Ahmad Kumpoh as their coach.
During the ceremony, the students
received prizes of appreciation from their respective principals.
Organised
by Asean-COCI, the competition will be participated by all Asean
member countries where three students will represent each country. The
competition is aimed at encouraging Asean youth to know more about
Asean.
The ceremony also witnessed a dance
performance by the three students who will perform the dong dang dong
dang at the competition.
According to 17-year-old Dyg Siti
Maryam, this will be her first participation in such a competition and
she was happy to be selected and would try her best to make Brunei
Darussalam proud.
Speaking on the preparation, the
students said they have been trained everyday by their coach since
September 1 and have come to know more about Asean and believe that
such a competition is good for youth to get to know more about Asean.
