By Azaraimy HH

Bandar Seri Begawan - A Police Personnel was charged yesterday for taking $50 bribe from a road traffic offender.

The Brunei Anti Corruption Bureau said Sergeant 1361 Kadir bin Serudin, 50 years old, was charged before the Magistrate's Court in the capital for an offence under Section 6(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act (Chapter 131).

Based on the investigation conducted by the Anti Corruption Bureau, it was found out that the sergeant, working at the Investigation and Traffic Control Department of the Royal Brunei Police Force, did corruptly obtain from a driver a gratification in the sum of $50 as an inducement in order to avoid taking action against him for contravening the Road Traffic Regulation under the Road Traffic Act (Chapter 68).

The offence was allegedly committed on May 14, 2005 at the vicinity of Haji Daud Complex in Gadong.

No plea was taken. The court released him on bail of $5,000 or one local surety. The case will be heard again on October 19, 2006. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
