Grand Sale Begins Friday
By Za'im Zaini
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The much-awaited 12th Brunei Grand Sale (BGS) is
beginning tomorrow.
The sale that will last for 45 days
(until Oct 29) will end a week after Hari Raya. Shops, department
stores and supermarkets will be offering attractive discounts on goods
and hold special promotions during the BGS period.
Hj
Razali bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Deputy Director General of Economic
Planning and Development Department, during a press conference
yesterday at the Economic Planning and Development Department, warned
traders against breaking the rules.
"Anyone who breaks the rules will be
withdrawn (from the sale) and be barred from participating in the
future," he said.
JPKE
said they continue to receive cooperation from all department stores,
supermarkets and shops throughout the nation. This year's BGS theme is
'Harga Murah, Jualan Meriah, Ekonomi Bertambah' or `Bargain prices to
boost sales and hence economic growth'.
Hj
Razali said, "Our department is appreciative of the public cooperation
as their support is instrumental in catching those who abuse the sale
and confuse consumers with their prices.
"The public can report to the
department so that it can dispatch officials to catch those who abuse
the sale or break the rules of participation red-handed."
The public is encouraged to support
the BGS 2006 but they have also been reminded to spend wisely and
check the prices carefully before making the purchase. If they suspect
any abuse by the participants they are advised to keep the receipt for
the item they have bought and call the JPKE hotline 2230223 during
office hours.
Haji
Razali also said that their department will try to ensure that no
abuses will take place as they are currently conducting pre-inspection
rounds to shops, supermarkets and all department stores to
specifically look for the listed items that have been submitted for
discounts to ensure the success of this year's BGS.
These inspections are not only
conducted before the Brunei Grand Sale but also during the sale, he
said.
The 12th BGS is organised by the
Department of Economic Planning and Development (JPKE), Prime
Minister's Office. It will be launched Friday, 2.30pm at the
Exhibition Hall, Bumiputera Commercial and Trade Centre in the
capital.
In conjunction with the BGS 2006, a
weeklong local products fair participated by more than 30 local
entrepreneurs will be held at the Exhibition Hall. Haii Razak bin Hj
Angas, Assistant Director of Implementation and Monitoring, was also
present during the press conference. -- Courtesy of Borneo
