Public invited to check out local bazaar, side events
By Rosli Abidin Yahya

Members of the public are invited to attend a local bazaar and cottage industry exhibition that opens today at Simpang 323, Jalan Jerudong.

Scheduled to run until September 17, the event will put on display a variety of agricultural and fish products, handicraft items, souvenirs and ornamental plants.

The event is organised by Agrinduz Development Sdn Bhd (Agrinduz).

A total of 20 booths will be provided for local entrepreneurs to showcase their products.

According to Agrinduz Director Haji Matzin Haji Salleh, the bazaar and expo will enable local entrepreneurs to promote their products and establish, develop and strengthen their business networks.

The event will also benefit local establishments in search of new suppliers of agriculture and fishery products, he added.

Meanwhile, side events have also been lined-up, one of which is a business workshop to be held Sept 17 at the Entrepreneurs Development Building at Spg 323, Jalan Jerudong.

Industry experts from Malaysia and Singapore will be the facilitators for the workshop, where they will cover topics such as strengthening entrepreneur skills, investment opportunities in herbal industry, Tilapia fish farming and transportation, and traits needed towards becoming successful businessmen.

There will also be visits to fish farms in Jalan Tutong and Kg Sungai Besar in Jalan Kota Batu.

A workshop on the production and processing of bean curd and fruit jams will also be held in Temburong on Sept 16, in Kuala Belait on Sept 17, and at the Entrepreneurs Development Building on Sept 18.

On Sept 21, another workshop - Strengthening and Empowering the Cottage-Industry Entrepreneurs - will be held at the Entrepreneurs Development Building.

Further details on the workshop can be obtained by contacting 8873171, 8888330 or by faxing 2610701.

The workshops are organised in response to His Majesty's titah, during which the monarch spoke of attaining self-sufficiency in agriculture.

Last July 15, the monarch called for the speeding up of economic diversification to reduce the dependence on oil.

His Majesty also urged locals to be more open to business opportunities, including attracting foreign investments, to ensure the country's economic growth.
