Taking A Leap Into Marketing
Future

Begawan - The two-day SME Partnership Programme by Asia Inc, at
the Empire Hotel and Country Club, entitled "Brunei: A Leap into the
Future of Marketing Communications", came to an end yesterday.
Over 30 business representatives took
part in the programme, which was conducted by the Regional Senior
Account Manager (Asia Pacific) of Young and Rubicam, Wempy Dyocta
Koto.
The goal of the gathering was to
offer a practitioner's vantage of the global, regional and local
dynamics of marketing to local entrepreneurs as well as business and
political leaders.
"The seismic shift engineered by His
Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, to
migrate economic dependence from crude oil, petroleum products and
liquefied gas to an intelligencebased economy places pressure on
Bruneians to expand the private sector and diversify their
professional skills," Koto said during proceedings.
Central to this national vision is an
understanding of the catalytic role that the marketing communications
industry plays in private sector innovation and expansion, he added.
"The programme comprehensively
discussed marketing, and triggering the innovation of many marketing
gimmicks that we can apply ... international perspectives were also
brought in, and adopted to (suit) the local scene," said a
participant.
Retailer Lenny Rahman added, "It was
excellent, practical and presented in a manner that a person without a
business background could easily understand. As a retailer, I've
applied some to the techniques that were discussed."
A multi-industry businessman Pg Mohd
Isman Hisham bin Pg Hj Othman noted: "I feel that a lot of new
techniques were touched on ... effective marketing communication
strategies aren't that costly."
Proceedings concluded with a
certificate presentation by Hj Mohd Zaini bin Hj Mohd Omar, External
Affairs Advisor, BSP, Andrew Young, Deputy General Manager' of
Operations at Baiduri Bank: and Aziz Latip, Assistant CEO for Business
