Creativity Of Women Artists On Display During Women @ Art
By P. Marilyn

Bandar Seri Begawan - Rainforest Gallery in Kiulap, a platform for emerging artists to display their creativity, will be holding an exhibition of modern and contemporary art from 20 women artists living in Brunei.

The artists who hail from Yemen, New Zealand, Singapore, the Philippines, France, Australia, Malaysia, as well as Brunei itself, will highlight their latent innovative talent during the Women @ Art exhibition, which will be held at the Gallery from September 15-25.

The exhibition should provide visitors with an unprecedented opportunity to experience many of Brunei's modern-day artworks.

Women @Art will feature paintings by Lim Pek Ching, Lily Chiam, Dominique MacCamley Langer, Siew Yong Ong, Rachel Kent, Valeria Thomson, Bambi C Anderson, Magi Morris, Angie Hing and Doris Lee.

"Painting gives me an outlet to be expressive. Many of my pieces exude a sense of tranquillity, which is how I feel when I paint. The works of traditional Chinese artists and their techniques are a big inspiration for me. I enjoy experimenting; fusing modem contemporary styles with the traditional," said Doris Lee.

Meanwhile mosaic pieces by Trudi Hooerbrugge and Mahemuda Arsalani, and multimedia artwork by Mary Hiew, Elizabeth Marcillat and Amanda Malpas will also be on display, as will photographs by Jan Murphy and Margaret Prior.

The opening reception will take place at 7 pm, Friday, September 15. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
