Minister Launches BICTA 2006 Expo

Begawan - "The Brunei IT Council has agreed to an e-Government
Programme Review to be implemented with consultation services from
Brunei Shell Petroleum... for an eGovernment that is efficient,
organised, more cohesive and cost effective," said Pehin Dato Awang Hj
Abu Bakar bin Hj Apong, Minister of Communications, yesterday
"We must change the consumer paradigm
to make way for a creative, innovative society that has the capacity
to market its creations.
We must also give encouragement,
support and guidance so creations become intellectual properties that
can be commercialised," said the minister during the launch of the
Brunei ICT Awards (BICTA) Expo 2006 yesterday morning.
Welcoming remarks were delivered
byAwang Hj Ibrahim bin Hj MohdAli, Acting Permanent Secretary,
Minister of Communications cum Chairman of Steering Committee, BICTA
2006 Expo.
The BICTA Expo is open daily to the
public until Friday September 15, at the Mall Gadong, from 9am to 9pm.
It aims to promote the development of ICT in Brunei Darussalam, and
showcases BICTA 2006 projects, egovernment projects and products and
services from telecommunication providers and ICT companies.
BICTA's
theme is "Strengthening ICT Industry through Local Development and
Innovation".
Participants are government agencies,
BICTA 2006 nominees, telecommunication providers, and local and
regional ICT companies. GTE Directories (B) Sdn Bhd officially
launched the GTE Directories Yellow Pages web directory at
www.yp.com.bn.
The winners of this year's Brunei ICT
Awards will be announced during the BICTA Gala Night, on Tuesday, Sept
19.
BICTA
2006 is organised by the Ministry of Communications with the support
of the Authority for Info-Communication Technology Industry of Brunei
Darussalam (AiTi), Brunei Darussalam Information Technology Council
(BIT) Secretariat and Brunei Darussalam Computer Society.
