Man Gets One Year, Cane For Overstaying

Bandar Seri Begawan - A Thai man was sent to jail for a year with three strokes of the cane for overstaying, yesterday. Thongrit Sri-Ngam, 37, reportedly overstayed from December 11, 1993 until he was arrested two days ago.

The defendant's employment pass was cancelled by his former legal employer when he ran away and worked with various companies illegally until the time of his arrest. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
