50 Foreigners Nabbed In Joint
Operation

Begawan - Over 50 foreign nationals were detained for failing
to produce valid documents in the latest joint operation conducted by
Royal Brunei Police Force and Law Enforcement Section, Department of
Immigration and National Registration on Sunday.
The targeted location of Sunday's
operation was the multi-storey car park in the capital and was co-led
by Senior Chief Immigration Officer from the Law Enforcement Section,
Department of Immigration and National Registration, and District
Commanding Officer (DCO) Brunei District Police.
The operation involved 65 enforcement
personnel, 25 from the Law Enforcement Section, Immigration Department
and 40 personnel from Royal Brunei Police Force.
In the operation, eight special
passes were issued while 11 foreign nationals, comprising seven
Indonesian men, an Indonesian woman, two Indian men and a Filipino
woman, were further detained.
Rahmat
Kurniawan, an Indonesian, did not have any valid documents when
enforcement personnel detained him at the I floor of the multi-storey
car park in the capital. He admitted to entering and residing in the
country illegally. He said he entered through the Sg Tujoh border
control post on April 19, with an `agent', and was driven by an
Indonesian national in a vehicle bearing an Indonesian licence
registration plate.
He added that two others were with
him when they entered the country but he has no knowledge of their
current whereabouts. He was brought to the Bandar Seri Begawan Police
Station for further investigation.
The other foreign nationals detained
are waiting for their employers to bring their passports.
Meanwhile, a routine inspection was
conducted yesterday by the Law Enforcement Section, Department of
Immigration and National Registration. It was led by Acting Chief
Immigration Officer and involved five officers from the Law
Enforcement Section. The targeted area of the operation was the
parking area of a hotel in the capital. An Indonesian woman was held
for failing to produce any valid documents.
Siti
Haryanti, whose visit pass expired I I days ago, was caught while on
her way to the parking area. She was taken to the Law Enforcement
Section of the Immigration Department. Enforcement personnel were
acting on a public tip-off.
She is suspected of being involved in
immoral activities and allegedly searched for clients through her
handphone, charging them $30 for her `service'. -- Courtesy of Borneo
