Man Fined Over Alcohol & Cigarettes

Bandar Seri Begawan - A permanent resident, aged 32, was fined $1,300 after pleading guilty to charges under the Customs Act. He settled the fine.

Willie Chung admitted to unlawful possession of liquor on the first count and cigarettes on the second charge.

In court, the defendant admitted that police officers near the Kuala Lurah Control

Post stopped his vehicle to conduct an inspection upon seeing some suspicious persons - the defendant and his two passengers - on September 4.

The officers found 24 cans of Tiger beer, four bottles of Smirnoff Vodka and two cartons of cigarettes.

All of the goods were undeclared.

The court ordered for the undeclared goods to be forfeited for destruction and the defendant's car returned to him. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
