Boat Race Draws In Crowd

Tutong - Hundreds of people gathered at Tasek Damuan in Jalan Tutong yesterday morning to witness the Youth Traditional Boat and Kayak Competition 2006.

Held in conjunction with Youth National Day, the event was organised by Kampong SABA Association (PERKASA) in collaboration with Youth and Sports Department of Brunei-Muara District Youth Branch.

On hand to officiate the event was the guest of honour, Dato Paduka Haji Idris bin Haji Abas. Among the aims of yesterday's event was to strengthen closer ties among participants and committee members as well as the general public.

The event kicked off with the introduction of committee members and participants, which was followed by a photo session.

The competition also saw eight teams battling it out in various boat races, including the 700 metres Traditional Boat competition, which involved 20 paddlers, and 200 metres Youth Delta Kayak. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
