MoE Holds Quran Reading Contest
Finals

Begawan - The finals of a Quran reading competition, organised
by the Ministry of Education, were held at the Berakas Sixth Form
Centre yesterday.
Present as the guest of honour was
Deputy Minister of Education Pengiran Dato Dr Hj Mohammad bin Pg Hj
Abd Rahman, who later presented prizes to the winners.
Also in attendance were senior
officials of the ministry, invited guests and family members of the
finalists.
Yesterday's event saw four male and
three female contestants battling it out for the top, spots as well as
standing the chance to represent the ministry in the 10"
Inter-Ministerial Quran Reading Competition on November 15.
Awg
Metassim bin Hj Bungsu from the Co-Curriculum Education Department won
the men's category with his Surah Yusof (verse 101). First and second
runners-up were Awg Hj Bujang bin Deris from the Schools Department's
Secondary Schools Section and Awg Hj Hamzah bin Hj Mustapa from the
Schools Department's Primary Schools Section.
Meanwhile, Dyg Hjh Zuraidah bte Hj
Mohd Salleh from the Planning, Development and Research Department
emerged as the winner in the women's category with her recitation of
Surah Al-Fath (verse 18). First and second runnersup were Dyg Hjh
Hajidah bte Abd Wahab from the Co-Curriculum Education Department and
Dyg Hjh Norbayah bte Hj Shahminan from the Special Education Unit.
The competition was participated by
eight men and six women from various departments under the Ministry of
Education. The selection round was held at the Lambak Kanan Mosque on
August 16 where four men and three women were chosen for the finals.
