Singaporean Association Hosts
Reception
By Azaraimy HH
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Singaporeans in the Sultanate were asked to integrate
with the society in the Sultanate while at the same time they should
keep in touch with one another in maintaining "a sense of home away
from home".
Singapore High Commissioner to
Brunei, Mr Joseph Koh, told this to the Bulletin during the
Singaporean Association high-tea reception at the Millennium
Restaurant yesterday.
The reception was to mark the 41st
National Day of Singapore and it was open to all Singaporean,
Singapore permanent residents and friends working and residing in
Brunei. The event was emceed by the association's newly elected
president, Reggie See, also the General Manager of Brunei Press.
The activity was also meant to
coincide with a "Meet the Singaporean Community" function hosted by
the Singapore High Commissioner, the patron of the association.
Mr
Koh said the Singaporean community in the Sultanate should take time
to meet and keep in touch with one another through exchange of ideas
and experiences.
Before coming to Brunei, Mr Koh said
he was in Taiwan and Australia where he , has seen a good cohesion and
sense of camaraderie among Singaporeans, and he hopes to have the same
friendly atmosphere here.
Meanwhile, Singaporean Association's
Vice President, Mr Lester Lee, asked more Singaporeans in Brunei to
join the association.
Mr
Lee said the association hopes to organise more social activities for
its members such as high-tea reception and blood donation campaign.
According to him, the association has
existed since early 1990's and currently it has more than 100 members.
However, this number is small as
compared to the actual number of Singaporeans working and residing in
the Sultanate. So he urged more Singaporeans in the country to
register as members of the association.
At the high-tea reception, there was
also a presentation of Letters of Appreciation to Exco members of the
association by the Singapore High Commissioner, followed by the
presentation of souvenirs to the High Commissioner and his spouse by
Collin Cheah, President of the association (20042006). -- Courtesy of Borneo
