Fined For Stealing Cans Of Baby Milk Powder

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 52-year-old woman who stole two cans of baby milk powder from a supermarket in Batu Bersurat three days ago was slapped with a $1,000 fine or a month's jail in default by the Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Dyg Hjh Roseni binti Rashid pleaded guilty to stealing a can of Enfacid A+ fortified milk stage 4 (1.8kg) and a can of Enfapro A+ follow-up formula stage 2 (900g) from Happy Star Supermarket.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Azrimah Rahman told the court that the defendant had hid the cans underneath the `jubah' she was wearing. She then walked to an isolated area and put the cans in her handbag.

Dyg Hjh Roseni left the supermarket straight after, but was stopped outside the supermarket by a security guard.

The defendant who has had seven previous convictions was then brought to the administration office of the supermarket.

Whilst climbing up the stairs towards the administration office, the defendant took out one can that was hidden between her legs, as the defendant was having difficulties climbing up the stairs. At the manager's office, the defendant took out another can from her handbag and placed it on the table. The estimated cost of the two cans of milk power was $49.20. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
