Mosque's Fountain Gives Water For Ablution
By Rosli Abidin Yahya

Bandar Seri Begawan - Muslims performing Friday prayers at the Masjid Same' 'Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kiulap were forced to turn to the mosque's water for their ablution as the taps went dry in Brunei Muara and Tutong districts since late Wednesday afternoon.

Worshippers found the taps dry and the provided blue tanks could not accommodate them all at once as they rushed to perform ablution in time to join the Friday prayers in congregation.

"I usually perform my ablution at home but since my water tap ran dry, I came to the mosque hoping to find the water taps running," said a worshipper. -

Meanwhile, the cut-off in water supply has made many residents near the capital to go to various areas in Gadong.

Armed with towels, soaps and bottles of shampoo, affected residents were seen queuing at the doors of comfort rooms of shopping centres, shops and restaurants to take showers and other needs.

The residents expressed their gratitude to owners of buildings and establishments for allowing them to do so. Affected residents said while they understood the cause of the water-cut, they hoped contingency plans should be thought of to cope with future incidents.

"Water and electricity supplies are so vital for people and businesses that stand-by units should be utilised as soon as one system failed so as not to cause chaos to people and businesses.

"With the advent of technology, SMS should be used to warn people of system failure so they could be ready in cases repairs could take two to three days to complete.

"Many people were caught unawares last Wednesday evening as they continued to use water at a normal rate," they said. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
