By James Kon

Bandar Seri Begawan - A total of 371 cans of Tiger Beer and 3 bottles of alcoholic drinks were seized by the enforcement officers of Royal Customs and Excise Department in the latest operation conducted at one of the hotels in the capital on Thursday night.

The seizure was deemed the largest haul of alcoholic drinks at a single location so far this year by the Royal Customs and Excise Department.

Acting on a tip-off from a member of the public, a team of 16 enforcement officers from the Intelligence and Preventive Section of the Royal Customs and Excise Department, led by the Acting Senior Superintendent of Customs, successfully raided the targeted room on the second floor of the hotel.

During the operation, the enforcement officers discovered 83 cans of Tiger Beer, three bottles of alcoholic drinks and five glasses of beer in a room that had apparently been converted into a drinking bar.

During an extended search at the lower level of the building, the officers managed' to find a total of 288 cans of Tiger Beer concealed inside five luggage bags under a stairway.

The Intelligence and Preventive Section of the Royal Customs and Excise Department meanwhile urged members of the public to provide any information that would enable the Department to take swift action against contraband activities in Brunei Darussalam, by contacting the hotline 8714422 or 2382422. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
