No-Water Crisis Trickling To An
End
By James Kon
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The nightmare of residents without water or
experiencing low water pressure for two days in the Brunei-Muara and
Tutong districts may come to an end soon with the Bukit Barun water
treatment plant operating back to normal.
|
According to the latest information
provided by the Water Services Department, power supply to the
water treatment plant at Bukit Barun has fully resumed since 4am
Sept 7 and at the moment, the supply to the distribution system is
gradually stabilizing.
Water supply has resumed to some
homes in BruneiMuara and Tutong, but there were still areas facing
water disruption or low water pressure yesterday.
The Water Services Department
said some areas are still without water as the pipe distribution
system still needs time to be refilled with water to stabilize the
system to its full capacity.
The Water Department is
stretching all its resources to cope with the water disruption
where some homes have had to do without water since Thursday.
Eight tankers, each carrying

affected areas. However, the eight
tankers are too paltry to serve all the residents of Brunei -
Muara District and Tutong District. Some tankers which were
requested to a designated location, cannot deliver on time due to
the massive demand. |
During the distress period, the Water
Department urged the public to collect water from the available
standpipes and blue tanks.
The standpipes are available at Jalan
Tasek Lama, Masjid Serdang Jln Kota Batu, Spg Jalan Tanah Jambu Kanan
(in front of Kedai Koperasi Persatuan TIBA), Post Office Batu Satu Jln
Tutong, entrance to Jln Babu Raja, Berakas booster pump station,
Jerudong booster pump station. While in Tutong the standpipes are
available at Masjid Sg Liang.
Location of the blue tanks is in
Sekolah Rendah Kiarong, Jln 77 Lambak Kanan, Spg 51 Rimba, Pasar
Anggerek, Light Industry Beribi and Sg Kebun. In Tutong it is at
Syarikat Kerjasarna Tanjung Maya and Masjid Kg Layong.
To help ease the situation, the Water
Services Department also provides two jerry cans, 3 gallons each or
one jerry can of 5 gallons for the public. Some 450 jerry can bottles
filled with water are available and can be collected at the Department
of Water services headquarter at Tasek Lama.
According to one of the many people
affected by the water disruption, SR Selvam who lives in Kg Kiarong,
said "I felt that the Water Services Department had handled the
situation very well."
The doctor from RIPAS Hospital also
explained that "this is a major problem and it's not easy to cater and
support all the affected areas."
Dr Selvam was some of the first few
who took home two jerry cans and returned the plastic bottles after
water supply resumed at his home yesterday evening.
Meanwhile, anyone who needs to the
service of a water tanker, can call Hotline 140/2223015/2222428/9/
2236870/ 69.
The Department of Water Services
appreciates the public's cooperation and patience and regrets the
inconvenient caused. --
