Muslims Urged To Stop Blaming
Failure On Fate
By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - A religious forum was held at Masjid Kampong Masin on
Wednesday night, highlighting the need for Muslims to double their
efforts in order to change their life conditions.
Chaired by Pg Hj Haslin bin Pg Hj
Ali, the forum saw two panellists from the Ministry of Religious
Affairs - Ustaz Haji Hambali bin Haji Jali and Ustaz Haji Maruki bin
Haji Abd Rahman - delivering their views to the audience.
The forum - which will be broadcasted
on Radio Television Brunei's `An Nuur' programme tonight - attracted
some 100 male and female Muslims from the area.
The panellists highlighted the need
for Muslims to work hard in order to achieve success and also to stop
blaming fate for their failures.
Whey said many Muslims misunderstood
the concept of fate - where Muslims are asked to work hard in order to
be able to change their conditions, as God says "... verily never will
God change the condition of a person until they change it themselves
(with their own souls)..." (Qur'an 3:11).
"However, it is true that only God
knows of one's future and fate, thus Muslims should strive to achieve
the goodness in this world and the hereafter.
"Undoubtedly, one has to submit every
single thing to God. But, this is suppose to be after his hands have
stretched out to do the best he can, to change himself, so that he
wouldbe able to manage and cope with unforeseen calamities or
misfortune," one of the panellists said.
He said, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) once
asked a Bedouin who had left his camel untied. "Why do you not tie
your camel? ....
"The Bedouin answered, `I put my
trust in God.
"The prophet then said, `tie up your
camel first then put your trust in God."'
"This conversation depicts not only
how Muslims should accept their fate but also indicates how Muslims
can reduce the risk of loss and calamities," he added. -- Courtesy of Borneo
