Special World Heart Day At Taman This Sunday

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei Darussalam is celebrating the Healthy Heart Month with the World Heart Day theme "How Young is Your Heart?" this month to raise awareness on heart diseases and preventive lifestyles to minimise heart disease.

Special World Heart Day activities comprise a walkathon, tug-of-war, motorcycle rides, aerobic routines, CPR demonstrations and various fun games which will be held this Sunday (September 10) at Taman Haji Sir Muda OmarAli Saifuddien in the capital.

Organised by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with Gleneagles JPMC Sdn Bhd, the event entitled "Healthy Mukim" is facilitated by the Consultative Council of Mukim Kianggeh (MPMK).

Yesterday, organisers for the Sunday event met at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien for a site inspection and to discuss the planned activities.

According to Haji Lutfi Haji Abd Halim, Penghulu of Mukim Kianggeh cum Chairman of MPMK, the event will be officiated by the Minister of Health, Pehin Dato Awang Haji Suyoi.

He called on the public including the residents of Mulcim Kianggeh to support the heart-awareness campaign which will commence at about 6.30am with a walkathon led by the guest of honour.

He said a march past by the working committee members of World Heart Day, council members of MPMK, committees and juries of sporting events, tugof-war teams and motorbike riders will commence at 9am accompanied by the Pipe and Drums Band of Prisons Department.

After CPR demonstrations, aerobic routines and tug-of-war contests, a number of fun games and sporting events such as sack races, tyre-rolling, 50-metre sprints and 70metre relays and races will take place, he added.

Other activities of Health Heart Month include a health exhibition, public health screenings, talks and a road show at all the four government hospitals.

On the actual World Heart Day on September 25, a number of activities will be organised at the Jerudong Park and Country Club, namely a walkathon, aerobics performance, colouring competition, bouncer games for children, outdoor exhibition and a lucky draw.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
