Bandar Seri
Begawan - Efforts to reintroduce local culture to the younger
generation in the form of exhibition, publication, seminar or workshop
is important in uplifting the cultural heritage of the Sultanate.
Acting Director of Brunei Museums
Department, Awg Bantong Bin Antaran, said this in his speech at the
closing ceremony of a two-day workshop on traditional games of Brunei
which ended yesterday.
The event was jointly organised by
the Brunei Museums Department and the Consultative Council of
Penanjong.
The acting director said it requires
efforts from all sides including practitioners of traditional games
and the community at large in preserving the cultural heritage of the
country.
He said the workshop was an
initiative of the Brunei Museum Department especially the Malay
Technology Museum to encourage owners or practitioners of traditional
games in preserving the national cultural heritage as well as
developing and widening their cultural knowledge through various
processes that are effective.
Also present at the event were
chairman of the workshop, Awg Pudarno Bin Bincin, Ketua Kampong of
Penanjong, workshop participants and local residents.
The main objective of the workshop
was to reintroduce and encourage appreciation of local culture in the
form of traditional games to the participants. It also hoped to
preserve cultural creativity, encourage local experts on traditional
games to develop a sense of cultural preservation and to create a
network of cooperation between the experts and the Brunei Museums
Department.
The acting director later presented
certificates to workshop speakers and participants. There were also an
exhibition and a bazaar of local crafts. -- Courtesy of Borneo
