Follow Rules Or Face The Music:
Belait Immigration
By Liza Mohd
Bandar Seri
Begawan - Employers are warned against breaking any employment
pass rule stated under Rule 15 of the Immigration Rules or risk facing
a compound fine of $600.
This strong reminder from the Belait
Immigration Enforcement Section was issued in view of an operation,
codenamed "Berkas 93", carried out on Monday that saw some 40 foreign
workers being inspected at five retail stores in Tutong District.
Immigration officials issued special
passes to eight foreign workers and arrested an Indian national for
failing to produce valid documents pertaining to his stay and
employment in the country.
The Immigration Department, in its
report, stated that two Indian nationals working at a retail store in
Kampong Sengkarai had breached employment pass rules by working for
other people instead of the company stated in their work passes.
Further inspection at the store led
to the discovery of two more Indian nationals, who were hired as a
shopkeeper and a deliveryman in their work passes, but found to be
working as cashiers instead.
All four foreign workers were issued
special passes for further investigations.
The operation, which involved 11
immigration personnel, was conducted between 4.30 pm and 8.30 pm.
Meanwhile, public members with
information on immigration offenders are urged to contact the
Immigration Department hotlines at 333 1879, 334 1938, 238 3555 or
2383777. -- Courtesy of Borneo
