Asean Skills Competition Kicks Off

Begawan - The 6th Asean Skills Competitions kicked off
yesterday in three venues involving 400 competitors, experts, heads of
delegation, other officials and observers.
Contestants have three days oftough
challenges, and will be observed and monitored as they complete every
task on the skills list.
Brunei contestant Awang Abdul Rahman,
21, in the Automobile Technology skills competition, is doing well,
said one expert on the first day.
The International Convention Centre,
the largest venue, is the skills area for Automobile Technology,
Commercial Wiring, Computer Aided Drawing & Design (CADD), Electronics
Application, Information Technology, Ladies Dressmaking, Plumbing and
Restaurant Service.
Twelve competitors from Brunei
Darussalam, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam are
competing in Information Technology and perform spreadsheet, graphic &
presentation, document processing and data base. Brunei Darussalam is
represented by Awang Abd Moe'ty bin Hj Abd Samad and Awang Mohammad
Idzni bin Idris.
Computer Aided Drawing and Design
competitors from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and
Vietnam are required to produce drawings' from physical model,
assembly drawing and detailed drawing. Brunei Darussalam is
represented by Awang Hj. Md. Wafi bin Hj. Abd. Rahman and Dyg.
NurAdiba bte Mohammad.
Eleven competitors from Brunei
Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam are
competing in Commercial Wiring. They have to complete four modules in
three days. The tasks include wiring and control installation,
installation testing and equipment set-up. Awang Johari bin Salleh and
Awang Loo Sandry are representing Brunei Darussalam.
In Electronic Applications, 10
participants from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and
Vietnam compete in assembly and function of project, rework exercise,
fault finding, test equipment use, prototype design and reverse
engineering. The Brunei representatives are Awang Ho Chang Jie and
Awang Muhammad Fadhali bin Rabaha.
Participants competing in Ladies
Dressmaking come from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand
and Vietnam. Bruneians Dyg Nur Haliza bte Osman and Dyg Siti Rafidah
bte Mulyadi@Suzinam are required to produce a jacket and a dress
within 18 hours in three days.
In Automobile Technology 10
competitors from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and
Vietnam will perform tasks on petrol engine tuning, steering and
suspension, electrical system, brake system, engine mechanical and
automatic transmission. Each participant have to complete two tasks
per day.
Awang Abdul Rahman bin Hj Lamat and
Haryzan bin Rassuhan are the Brunei representatives. Twelve
competitors from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines
Thailand and Vietnam competing in Restaurant Service will be designing
buffet layout, "napkin folding, cocktail and mocktail presentations
and table d'hote cover. The Brunei Darussalam delegates are Dyg
Zawanah bte Abd Karim and Dyg Siti Nurzalikha bte Hj Zali.
In Plumbing, 10 competitors have 18
hours to install waste pipes, black mild steel and hot and cold water
pipes. They, are from Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand
and Vietnam. Awang Mohd Arif bin Hj Ismail and Awang Mohd Nif Keman
bin Abd Hamid are the Brunei representatives.
The skills competition in cabinet
making and wielding, bricklaying are being held at the Indoor Stadium,
and at the Sultan Saiful Rijal Technical College. Young chefs are
