Marine Dept Officer Charged With CBT Released On Bail

Bandar Seri Begawan - A local shipping superintendent at the Marine Department who is currently facing a charge of committing criminal breach of trust was released on bail after he asked the court for time to seek legal advice.

Haji Hamzah Haji Md Sidek was produced before the High Court yesterday for a charge of embezzling B$12,848 from electricity dues paid by various shipping companies to the Marine Department, in his capacity as the public servant entrusted by the department.

The offence allegedly happened sometime between November 2001 and October 2002 at the shipping office. No plea was taken. The defendant will be produced again before the courts on September 21.  -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
