Brunei Softball Teams Make Name In Miri Tourney

Bandar Seri Begawan - Two top softball teams in Brunei, Gunners and Go Divas, joined forces for the First Merdeka Mixed Softball Carnival in Miri, Sarawak, and ended up the champions.

12 teams took part in the two-day tourney organised by Stealers and Critters in conjunction with Malaysia's Independence Day celebrations. Six of the 12 participating teams were from Brunei.

Gunners Go Divas were unbeaten all throughout the tournament, and beat another Brunei team, Gregor, 11-5 for the title.

The other Brunei teams that took part were Crankies, Age and Zombies.

The meet was also a personal success for Abas Suaji of Gunners Go Divas, who won the "Home Run King" award for his five homers in the competition.

The captain of the champion team, Capt (rtd) Wan Tambrin bin Hj Suhaili, received the championship trophy from State Assemblyman for Pujut, Andy Chia. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
