By Rosli Abidin Yahya
Bandar Seri
Begawan - The Brunei Blood Bank of Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak
Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital, with cooperation from Elken Sdn Bhd, on
Sunday collected 391 bags of blood to boost its reserve in a blood
donation campaign held at The Mall, Gadong.
According to Alfian Maskur of Elken
Sdn Bhd, the drive managed to collect 91 more bags of blood than its
target of 300 bags.
However, the company only managed to
collect a total of 7,800 bags of blood, gathered from Malaysia,
Singapore and Brunei, and could not break the current mark of 8,258
bags recorded in the Malaysian Book of Records.
The company has been the "Largest
Organisation Donor" in the record book and has managed to break its
record twice in 2004 and 2005.
Their record of 8,258 bags of blood,
obtained last year, will remain until the next blood donation drive.
"We will try to break the record in
our next campaign in 2007.
"Apart from achieving the record, the
annual event is also the company's social responsibility to help
patients who need blood." he said.
On behalf of Elken Seen Bhd, Alifan
Maskur expressed his gratitude to Brunei Blood Bank. RIPAS medical
staff, the Ministry of Health staff members, The Mall management for
sponsoring the venue, Elken's working committee members and the
general public for their support during the drive.
Meanwhile, blood donors at the event
were each given a bottle of Elken Sirulina food supplement, food and
beverages as well as a free medical check-up.
