Forgery Could Mean Five Years In
Jail: Police

Begawan - The Police said that forging a document could land
the offender a prison term of not more than five years and a fine, and
that committing theft inside a building is punishable by up to seven
years' imprisonment and a fine. Committing theft (not inside a
building) meanwhile could land the offender in jail for up to three
years and a fine, or both.
Meanwhile, trespassing is punishable
by one year's imprisonment and a fine, while fraudsters face a maximum
imprisonment of three years or seven years (depending on where the
crime is committed) and a fine. Offenders involved in acts of
vandalism on property worth B$25 or more, if convicted could face up
to five years' imprisonment and two strokes of the cane, the Police
said.
The reminder came after several cases
relating to the said matters were reported last week to the Police.
One case of document forgery, one of trespassing, two cases of fraud,
one of vandalism, three cases of theft inside a building and another
two theft cases were recorded.
The Police said that a car theft
involving a Toyota Echo, two `car breakin and theft' cases and two
thefts were recorded at Fairley in Belait and in Kampong Manggis,
resulting in the loss of a 20-metre cable and cash.
Three theft cases inside a building
were reported at the Kg Kiarong-Gadong shopping complex in Gadong and
a power sub-station in Berakas. Items lost were a Sony video recorder,
two cameras, a wristwatch, a pair of binoculars, a bag containing
jewellery and 10 metres of wire.
Also reported last week were two
`Misuse of Drugs' cases involving the arrest of three men and two
women, one Customs violation leading to the arrest of a female and two
Immigration offences resulting in the arrest of 13 foreign men and one
foreign woman. Fifteen car accidents were also reported, with one
