Jobless Youth Jailed Three Years For Theft

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 20-year-old unemployed man was sentenced to 36 months' imprisonment and two strokes of the cane by the Bandar Magistrate's Court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to eight counts of theft and two charges of committing mischief.

Hj Mohd Reduan bin Hj Hussain, who told the court he committed the crimes to get some money to survive, admitted to committing the offences between May and August this year, around the Berakas area.

The defendant stole several car keys, bags, ATM cards, driving licences, cash, Brunei and Indonesian identity cards, mobile phones, SIM cards, a handy-cam, watches, a house plan, a compressor, five rolls of stickers, a camera and a pair of black sunglasses belonging to eight different people, the court heard.

The defendant also pleaded guilty to committing mischief by wrongfully damaging the locks of a prayer room door, a storeroom and drawers of several desks at Kampong Madang Religious School and a table belonging to a woman.
