BSM Dismantles Fishing Huts Over Safety Concerns
By Yusrin Junaidi

Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei Shell Marketing Company Sdn Bhd yesterday began dismantling fishing huts along the shoreline next to the jetty of BSM Muara Terminal.

Present to supervise the dismantling of the huts were representatives from Royal Brunei Police Force, Marine Police Muara and the Ports Department, with whom BSM has been working closely on this matter.

The fishing huts were used by fishermen to carry out fishing activities.

The huts were dismantled because BSM Muara Terminal is a gazetted area. Fishing and other activities by the public are strictly prohibited within the area for security and safety reasons.

All BSM personnel and contractors working in the terminal are well trained in safety rules and regulation, and unauthorised entry into the restricted area endangers both the public and those working at the terminal.

BSM places high priority on the Health, Security and Environment (HSSE) aspect of its operations. By nature oil and gas are hazardous and BSM has stringent regulations to ensure safety of the people in the area as well as the integrity of the terminal.

These include procedures for preventing the carrying of potential ignition sources such as cigarettes, matches, torches and mobile phones. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
