Seruji Seals Status As Best Golfer

Begawan - Seruji Haji Setia is the champion of the inaugural
Empire Amateur Open Golf Championship, after topping the Gross
category with his 3-day total of 219.
And as the champion, he picked up the
challenge and the winner's trophies, also winning himself a
3-day/2-night stay at the Empire Hotel and Country Club Executive
Suite and a trip to Saigon.
Following in second place was Alfred
Sim who scored a 231 total, while Suhaimi Hj Ibrahim was third with
233.
The Empire Amateur Open Golf
Championship was organised by the Empire Hotel and Country Club, in
conjunction with His Majesty's 60th birthday celebration, and came to
an end yesterday. 104 golfers took part in the tourney, sponsored by
NBT Brunei Sdn Bhd, Baiduri Bank, PTAS Group of Companies, QAF Auto
Sdn Bhd, Royal Brunei Airlines, Birdie Sporting House, Sehat Water and
Muiz Marketing.
Meanwhile, DrAlifAbdullah won the
Nett title, pushing Alfred Sim again into second place, and Hj Supahan
into third. The Junior title was won by Amalul Rahman.
Prizes were also awarded for Gross
and Nett winners in each round. Hj Supahan was the Gross winner in
Round One, while Ken Kho claimed the Nett win. The Round Two Gross
winner was Seruji Hj Setia and Alfred Sim took the Nett win.
Abdul Kadir Hj Ghani won the Gross
category in Round Three, while Amalul Rahman won the Nett.
The Deputy Minister of Industry and
Primary Resources, Dato Paduka Hj Hamdillah bin Haji Abdul Wahab, gave
away the main prizes at the end of play yesterday. Present at the
ceremony were the Baiduri Bank General Manager, Pierre Imhof and
representatives of the other sponsors.
The Assistant Club House Manager of
The Empire Hotel and Country Club-cum-Tournament Secretary, Pg Abdul
Rahman, said in a press release: "All our participants were extremely
enthusiastic about the event and enjoyed the challenge.
It definitely is a step in the right
direction to promote and support local golfing talent." "We are
delighted with the response to this event and have received many
positive comments from all who participated.
The course condition allowed all
participants to experience a post-tournament course, having this event
held just a week after the Brunei Open 2006. We look forward to next
