Call To Build Up 'E-Capacity With
Local Talents
By Azlan Othman
Bandar Seri
Begawan - It is important for companies to build up
'e-capacity' with local talents, as it is the aspirations of the
Government of His Majesty to encourage foreign companies to customise
the packaging of their products and services to suit the small markets
in the Sultanate.
This was stated by the Acting
Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Awg Hj Ahmad bin
Hj Abdul Rahman, who was speaking during the 2nd Edaran Technology
Seminar featuring Avaya and Aruba Networks yesterday.
The seminar, which was held at Asean-EC,
was attended by 70 government servants and other representatives from
the private sector. It was organised by Shinba-Edaran.
The Government of His Majesty has
embarked on its e-Government journey with the objective to enhance
government service by leveraging Information Communication Technology
(ICT) as the enabler.
We are now facing a greater
challenge, as the Internet has now become such a pervasive force in
the interaction between governments and citizens as well as
businesses, he said.
He explained that the challenges now
were not only to focus on the quality of services but also the need to
have all the fundamental networking infrastructure in place to provide
us with the secured channel to interact with customers.
Awg
Hj Ahmad said that governments would evaluate new strategies over
time. "What we planned five years ago should not necessarily be used
now," he said.
He hoped that yesterday's seminar
gave attendees a better understanding of new ICT technologies that are
available in the market today.
The experience and knowledge shared
during the seminar would provide us with deeper insight on the latest
technologies available on the market today, he said. This will enable
us to make informed decisions when acquiring any networking tools
required for our business activities, he added.
"Such commendable efforts by
Shinba-Edaran are also exemplary to all other ICT industry players,"
Awg Hj Ahmad said, applauding the company for their efforts in forming
joint-venture companies to further develop the local talent and
resource in the Sultanate.
Among those who were present during
the seminar were Shinba-Edaran's managing director, Ak Shariful Bahri
PSI Pg Hj Ismail, and Hj Mustaffa Rawther, the vice president of sales
of Edaran Digital Systems. -- Courtesy of Borneo
