Hands Up For Big Blood Drive

Begawan - Members of the public are invited to support the
blood donation drive which will be held at the first floor of The
Mall, Gadong this morning (Sept 3) as co-organiser Elken Sdn Bhd will
again be expected to break the Malaysian Book of Records in the
Largest Organisation Donor category.

Maskur, the company's spokesperson, said some 12 beds will be
available at the venue for donors to donate blood in the huge drive
that covers 29 locations in Brunei, Malaysia and Singapore.
"We are hoping to collect about 300,
bags of blood in Brunei in the drive co-organised by the Brunei
National Blood Bank and Elken Sdn Bhd.
"Prospective donors can just walk
into the venue from 9.30 am to 6.30 pm," he said.
He said every donor will receive a
free medical checkup, free bottle of Elken spirulina supplement worth
$17.20, certificate and free food and refreshment.
The Malaysian Book of Records has
awarded Elken Sdn Bhd with the "Largest Blood Donation Held by a
Single Organisation' 'for three consecutive years from 2003 to 2005.
The collaborative effort in the three
countries involved 2,000 working committee members, 300 nurses, 80
medical doctors and members of Red Crescent Society.
The collected blood will boost blood
banks in the three countries that will help accident victims, people
requiring surgeries and organ transplants, and long-term blood-needy
patients like leukaemia, haemophilia and anaemic victims.
The "Anyone Can Save a Life" blood
donation campaigns to date has yielded 20,140 bags of blood which has
been estimated to benefit 60,420 patients throughout the three nations
