Policeman Jailed For Beating Up Wife

Bandar Seri Begawan - A 45-year-old police personnel was sentenced to 14 months' imprisonment by the Intermediate Court judge Thursday after he pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing grievous hurt to his 46-year-old wife.

The defendant, Hj Abd Latif bin Hj Mohd Noor, got angry and pulled his wife's hair which caused her to fall to the ground, the court heard.

The defendant then continued to kick and punch his wife on her head and face, which resulted in his wife sustaining several injuries on her face.

The-medical report- on the defendant-'s wife states that she suffered lacerated wounds on the inner side of her lower lip, there was bleeding from the lower incisor teeth with fracture of alveolar bone as well as contusion swelling over the left side of her forehead and left upper cheek. The defendant's wife also had stitches inside her mouth and her lower lip.

The incident occurred when the defendant's wife had asked for her mobile phone from the defendant who refused to return the phone, saying that it was with his girlfriend.

Then, they both got into a heated argument over the alleged affair of the defendant. Prosecuting Officer Hjh Najwa Hj Abdul Majid prosecuted the case. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
