Asean 100 Leadership Forum Held

Begawan - The Asean 100 Leadership Forum 2006, a rotating
annual event by Asia Inc Forum, was held for the third-time in
Jakarta, Indonesia from August 23 till 24.
The forum is an interactive and
thought provoking meeting of minds of one hundred of Southeast Asia's
most promising next generation leaders from businesses, governments
and civil sector, who are important to the future of Asean.
he forum engages new and emerging
leaders in open discussion and debate on key regional issues and
challenges, as well as where Asean is headed from their perspective.
This year's forum brought together
over 200 Southeast Asian leaders from seven Asean economies, under the
theme "Securing Southeast Asia's Place in the World", to discuss and
debate Asean's approach to regional integration, the global economy
and renewed focus on Asia, democracy and business, anticipating and
responding to crises, the impact of continued re-emergence of China
and India and sustaining economic reforms. It also explored what these
issues mean for business and politics within the region.
Included was a Dinner & Dialogue with
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of Indonesia. In his address
"Transforming Indonesia: What Lies Ahead and the Implications for
Asean", President Yudhoyono stressed nine key points in Indonesia's
reformation. Later he engaged in a question and answer session with
delegates.
Other distinguished players included
Vice President Jusuf Kalla of Indonesia, Nobel Peace Prize recipient
Prime Minister Dr Jose Ramos-Horta of Timor-Leste, and Hon. Manuel
Roxas II of the Philippine Senate.
Also participating in the forum was
Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohammad
Yasmin bin Haji Umar, Deputy Minister of Defence, Brunei.
The Asean 100 Leadership Forum was
convened by Asia Inc Forum, a Bruneibased business and public policy
dialogue facilitator.
It is part of a group that includes
Asia Inc bi-monthly magazine and The Edge Singapore weekly. In
