By Lyna Mohammad

Bandar Seri Begawan - His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in his titah at the "Majlis Kesyukuran Anjuran Orang-Orang Yang DiKurniai Gelaran" last night said that those subjects bestowed with a title must uphold, support and assist the monarchy.

Also attending the thanksgiving ceremony at the Rizqun International Hotel of the Mall in Gadong were Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha and HRH Pengiran Isteri Azrinaz Mazhar, HRH Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah the Crown Prince and HRH Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah, HRH Prince Abdul Azim, HRH Prince Abdul Malik, HRH Prince Abdul Mateen and other members of the royal family.

His Majesty in his titah said each must also have their own specific roles, befitting the title that is bestowed.

"Here lies the beauty of our 'adat istiadat', not only beauty in the eyes but also beautiful in its content," he said.

The titles are not only to use for official-functions but those who have one is entrusted with the heavy, task.

The main responsibility is to uphold the

monarchy, to support and assist the monarchy in all aspects, for the prosperity of the people and the country, His Majesty said, adding that they cannot escape from these responsibilities.

Those who fail the principles to uphold, support and assist the monarchy is, therefore considered disloyal or unfaithful, he said. His Majesty also stressed that the ever changing world scenario does not guarantee a perfect soul and spirit and that a clean mind or soul can be influenced to a darker side. This is a fact, says His Majesty, and that it can happen everywhere.

"We don't want these bad influences and if it happens it can be detrimental especially to the monarchy and its sovereignty. The Islamic religion teaches to appoint a leader

and obey them, this is an obligation," His Majesty said.

The perspective of the obligatory loyalty, explains His Majesty, means that everyone must be obedient and that it is treachery for those who are disobedient and it is considered 'haram' and sinful.

His Majesty also questioned why certain people argue about the Malay Islamic Monarchy concept. "Questioning the MIB means that we are questioning ourselves and also the history of our origins."

He said it is the role of those given special titles to correct the understanding of the new generation about MIB.

MIB is beautiful to be mentioned and also beautiful in its contents. Those who uphold and live under this concept will be safe and prosper, His Majesty explained.   -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
