Noodles Factory Ordered Shut
By Hj Minor Absah

Bandar Seri Begawan - A factory making noodles, bean curd and tofu in Kilanas was ordered to cease operations by the Licencing Board of the Brunei-Muara District Office after it was found to be in unsatisfactory condition by inspectors from the Quality Control and Food Safety of the Ministry of Health.

Among the unacceptable conditions reported were its preparation area where there was no proper system or enclosure making the products produced susceptible to dust and insects.

At the preparation area alone there were two manholes, further increasing the risk of contamination of food products.

Furthermore, prepared food products were not properly kept or stored. The storage area also was not properly ventilated and several unnecessary items were kept together with raw materials for producing food.

Based on these and other reports, the Licencing Board ordered the owner to cease operations until the satisfactory level is met and for the factory to apply for a Miscellaneous Licence. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
