Upholding Code Of Conduct Within
The Public Service
By Azlan Othman
Bandar Seri
Begawan - If events such as Isra' Mi'raj are observed and
assimilated by the public servants, problems relating to discipline
and code of conduct would not be widespread.
This was stated by Pg Dato Paduka Hj
Abdul Hamid, Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, at an
Isra' Mi'raj celebration ceremony for the departments under the Prime
Minister's Office.
He added that from 2000 to 2005
disciplinary actions have been taken upon 436 staff members. A
majority of them were in Division V (with the total of 292 staff),
followed by Division IV (with 93), Division III (with 58), Division I
(with four), while 16 were from Division II.
Unfortunately, Prime Minister's
Office staff were the third highest to be taken for disciplinary
action. It shows integrity weaknesses in the public service which
could jeorpadise public trust on such organisation, he said.
What is more saddening, once
terminated, they continued to increase more social problems within the
country, which could pose more burden to the government.
Due to these circumstances, such
staff members should be referred to the Counselling Unit of the Public
Service Department. In addition, personnel should be willing to be a
public servant that is loyal and obedient to the rules and
regulations.
He also said that Isra' Mi'raj is a
time when Muslims and public servants should be reminded to possess a
pure heart, be trustworthy, faithful and sincere in providing services
to the public. -- Courtesy of Borneo
