BSP Awards 32 Scholarships

Begawan - Brunei Shell Petroleum will offer 32 scholarships,
including five for BLNG, six quotas for mechanical engineering, seven
for chemical engineering, four in geology, one in geophysics, nine in
petroleum engineering and five in instrumentation and control
engineering'.
This was stated by Haji Zainal Abidin
bin Hj Mohd Ali, BSP Deputy Managing Director and Human Resources and
External Affairs Director yesterday during the contract signing
between BSP scholars and BSP yesterday.
"I also wish to announce that a
review has been made in the policies of the BSP scholarship. The
company has raised the London supplement allowances from 50 pounds
sterling to 250 pounds sterling to cover their expenses especially on
accommodation. However, this allowance will immediately be ceased once
they are enrolled into the Brunei Hall in London," he said.
BSP would continue to sponsor more
students who meet the company's scholarship requirements, he said.
This is one of the company's strategies to ensure an adequate supply
of workforce to support the company on the coming future, especially
in the technical disciplines, such as geology, geophysics, quantity
surveying, meteorology and oceanography, chemical engineering,
mechanical engineering and surveying and mapping science.
21 BSP scholars signed their contract
with BSP. Awg Hj Zainal Abidin together with Awg Hj Amit Bin Hj Abd
Razak, the head of human resources relations and services at BSP
signed the scholarship contracts on behalf of BSP.
They include seven females and
fourteen males, who will study geology, chemical engineering,
mechanical engineering, geophysics, quantity surveying, meteorology
and oceanography and surveying and mapping science. They will study at
the University of Manchester, University of Nottingham, University of
Loughborough, University of Liverpool John Moores, University of East
Anglia, University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, University of Liverpool,
University of Leeds, University of College London and University of
Bristol in the United Kingdom.
They will study for three years and
will be bonded for five years with the company once they graduated.
Five of the 21 students will be bonded to BLNG
BSP also sponsored
another five graduates who will
continue their studies in Master in Petroleum Engineering, Exploration
Geophysics and Petroleum Geosciences at the Imperial College of
London, Heriot Watt University and University of Leeds. They will
complete the master programme in a year.

Hjh Nur Suria Amalia binti Hj Su'ut, who achieved a 1st class degree
in Chemical Engineering from the University of Manchester, will pursue
her studies in Msc. Petroleum Engineering at Imperial College of
London. She said she sees her future in BSP in longer terms. She
advised young students who plan to follow her footsteps to find a
